Yes! You CAN make money knitting, and I am very excited to show you this article from the New York Times…
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/17/fashion/17etsy.html?_r=1
It's an etsy success story of a woman who threw in her job to knit full-time and is now earning more that $140,000 a year working from home.
Now admittedly, this is no walk in the park – it's hard work doing that much knitting! But it shows what's possible, and it's really inspiring. Imagine if you were making only half or even a quarter of that amount from working at home and knitting…
So I hope this inspires you, and gives you a good boost in motivation to stay on your knitting for profit journey!
her 140,000 salary comes very largely from the 6-figure design deal she signed with Urban Outfitters, not from her etsy sales. That is not realistic for the average person who sells on etsy, and is a huge exception, not an example.
Thanks for the clarification Kathy – I’m still impressed that she is making great money in the industry!
I loved your post and bookmarked it on Digg and some other sites. Craft artists need inspiring from time to time to keep on going. Personally, I don't think it detracts from the woman's success at all that she swung a licensing deal. Nothing wrong with multiple income streams from your craft business. Good marketing is not an "either or" way of thinking, it's "and, and, and". Thanks for your post!
Kathy is right…. plus it's crochet, not knitting.
I’m still inspired by these women, whether it is knitting or crochet or both!
